There is nothing better to bring out the creative spirit of a child than puppets! Children can act-out their feelings as well as acting out books, stories, and original scripts they write themselves.
Can't afford puppets? No problem. Paper bag puppets are fun and economical for children of all ages to make. Paper lunch bags are usually available at a reasonable price at most grocery stores, supermarkets, and variety stores. For those who want to spend a bit more money colored paper bags can also be purchased at craft stores.
The bottom of the paper bag makes a perfect movable mouth that can be decorated by using markers, paints, crayons, felt or other materials as the imagination dictates. After the mouth is made eyes, hair, ears, jewelry, hats, horns, clothing etc. may be added to give the puppet a unique personality. All kinds of materials can be added from purchased googly eyes, yarn, sequins, or jewels to almost any recyclable material. Let the children bring in their own materials to share and add to what you may have in the classroom.
Let the children make their own puppets and watch the creativity bloom!
